I once got a quote from Red Hat to support a high volume Postfix MTA environment. Will Oracle be able to offer that type of service, where an Oracle database is not involved?

Use your targeted keyword phrase:
In META keywords. Its not necessary for Google, but a good habit. Keep your META keywords short (128 characters max, or 10 keywords).
In META description. Keep keyword close to The left but in a full sentence.
In The title at The far left but possibly not as The first word.
In The top portion of The page in The first sentence of The first full paragraph (plain text: no bold, no italic, no style).

OTher Search Engine Optimization things to consider include:
Use "last modified" headers if you can.
Validate that HTML. Some feel Googles parser has become stricter at parsing instead of milder. It will miss an entire page because of a few simple errors?we have tested this in depth.
Use an HTML Template throughout your site. Google can spot The Template and parse it off. (Of course, this also means They are pretty good a spotting duplicate content.)
Keep The page as .html or .htm extension. Any dynamic extension is a risk.
Keep The HTML below 20K; 5 to 15K is The ideal range.
Keep The ratio of text to HTML very high. Text should outweigh HTML by significant amounts.
Double-check your page in Netscape, Opera, and Internet Explorer. Use Lynx if you have it.
Use only raw hrEFs for links. Keep JavaScript far, far away from links. The simpler The link code The better.
The traffic comes when you figure out that 1 referral a day to 10 pages is better than 10 referrals a day to 1 page.
Dont assume that keywords in your sites navigation Template will be worth anything at all. Google looks for full sentences and paragraphs. Keywords just lying around orphaned on The page are not worth as much as when used in a sentence.

That last point is particularly on target -- reminiscent of people and interactions over tools and process.

I like the new house. The basement private space isn't as appealing as our old house -- it is unfinished -- and I only spend time down there running on the treadmill. But the amount of space in the rest of the house more than compensates for the lack of a basement. Elaina settled in much easier than we feared. And she likes the new chores of trying to grwo some foliage, too.

Being closer to family has been a mixed bag. We definitely see more of them, but it has not been too smothering yet. The downside is we're expected at most events now.

The job is coming along. Our business unit, acquired by JPMorgan Chase about 12 months ago, is still in transition, figuring out the new mission. The people are really bright, much more than I think they realize, at least in the context of my experience. I like the challenge of trying to keep up. After five months, I'm still not there yet, but I suppose that's always a work-in-progress.

I will try to be more disciplined about writing now.

This past week was spent settling in, getting my new machines configured, figuring out the administrivia of HR benefits enrollment and meeting many new people. All signs are that this is going to be an interesting bout of work.

I'm staying at my dad's house for the time being. I spent two evening this past week out to dinner with Mark and Melanie and with Stephanie's parents. While at Stephanie's parents', I set up the new computer I picked up for her dad during after-Christmas sales. I think it's going to come in handy that I'm now local as he gets used to his new XP machine after finally moving off Windows 98.

I should be clear, the quote is meant to be satirical of current Washington beliefs.

It seems to me that the average tenure of IT managers today is longer than the average IT foot soldiers'. An optimist's view on this phenomenon may be that managers are managers because they have a greater stake in the success of the organization, thus they tend to stay longer to realize some personal success. An argument can be made that managers either have a proven record of commitment to the organization's goals or that they have compensation incentives like stock options. A record of commitment is an emotional thing, and many managers who have worked their way up through the ranks probably have this. I call these emotionally tied managers. Compensation incentives, while not exclusive to new managers, are less emotional but no less a factor in why people stay with a job. I call these financially tied managers.

But cynic's view on IT managers' greater tenure could be that IT managers have fewer alternative job choices. While not always the case, many IT management positions require people to move away from their technical pasts. In our fast-paced environment, 18 months away can be a signifcant gap in terms of what changes. If one is an emotionally tied manager, this will not matter. They will stay with the organization through thick and thin because they deeply believe in the mission. But if one is a financially tied manager, the desire to stay with the organization during difficult times is less. But why don't these managers go elsewhere?

This brings me to my assertion. The reason IT managers may stay longer is that their ability to find new opportunities with comparable compensation is diminished.

At first, I was skeptical -- maybe it was the Texas connection -- that this was an attempt to gloss over major problems in the world, specifically partisan issues. But after scanning it for about 15 minutes, I cannot find any overt bias.
